BMW E70 Rear Suspension Air Bag Replacement

The bmw e70 rear suspension air bag is one of the key components in the BMW X5 E70's adaptive drive level control system that provides you with an amazing ride height adjustment from show-low to highway-high. Unlike coilovers, air ride systems are very simple to adjust with push-button ease from the comfort of your premium car's cabin.

Unfortunately, these air suspensions are also very prone to failure due to the many moving parts that make them up. A common problem with air suspensions is that the air spring bags will start to crack and leak which results in a lack of ability to raise or lower the vehicle at the rear. Unilateral lowering of the rear end is a clear indicator that your BMW's air springs are in need of replacement.

At Cartisan, we offer a quality air suspension kit including the replacement air springs which will allow you to restore that luxury ride height and flexibility to your bmw e70 rear suspension system. Each air spring is sold individually to save you money compared to purchasing the entire Air Suspension Strut from BMW's. This is a high-quality aftermarket part that is compatible with the original BMW Air Suspension Strut and will work with the original Adaptive Drive control system.

To install the air spring simply jack up the rear of your bmw e70 and support it with jack stands to prevent the vehicle from rolling off while you're working on the car. Remove the wheel and undo the circlip that holds the compressor pipe on. Unscrew the air compressor pipe from the hose and take the hose off the strut assembly.

Then locate the strut on the apex of the rear shock and unscrew the screw that holds it in place. Using a tool such as a air wrench, carefully remove the nut from the strut assembly and then use a wrench to remove the old strut and the air spring. Now locate the new strut on the apex and replace the screw, nut and the hose. Reconnect the air hoses, reattach the compressor and plug in the dyno test pump to check that everything is working correctly.
