Mercedes-Benz marketed the vehicle as a premium luxury SUV and featured it in several films, including the 1997 blockbuster Jurassic Park where an ML 320 was used by Jeff Goldblum's character. The production company also allowed Mercedes to use prototypes of the model for publicity purposes.

In addition to the traditional Airmatic suspension, a new "hydropneumatic" system was introduced that uses an active body control function that generates counter forces against body lean, dive and squat. It is able to keep the vehicle level and stable even at high speeds.

This air suspension system is based on the Viair Performance 3H system and comes with a wired digital controller that displays all four corner bag pressures and tank pressure as well as having height based sensors so it can re-level automatically when you load up your ride. The system also features a 4 gallon tank so you can drive for long distances without needing to stop for more air.

The compressor is made by AMK and is the same as what is built into the vehicle's factory system. It is backed by a 2 year warranty.
