Tesla Air Suspension - Smart Air Suspension

The tesla air suspension is an excellent option for drivers who want to enjoy driving with better handling and comfort without worrying about their tires.tesla air suspension However, it does come with some drawbacks. First, the tyres in some air suspension vehicles have been known to wear faster than on steel suspension chassis and second, the system requires frequent service center visits for repairs to the pneumatic bellows.

Smart Air Suspension was optional on Model S and X from 2013 to 2017.tesla air suspension It became standard on these models in 2018.

This feature allows you to easily raise or lower the ride height of your Tesla when entering or leaving a parking lot, driveway, or other location that is steep, bumpy, or uneven. It uses GPS location detection to remember your settings and reapply them automatically as you enter or exit a saved data point.

It is possible to manually adjust ride height by using the touchscreen or the control panel. In addition to adjusting your ride height, you can also set up the auto-raise feature that will raise the suspension automatically at any location where you have previously saved it.

The auto-raise feature can be disabled by deselecting the Always raise at this location option in the popup that appears when you arrive at a saved location, or by tapping Raise Suspension on the main Controls window.

When the vehicle is in self-driving mode, it may detect a dip in the road ahead and automatically adjust the suspension accordingly to reduce the risk of a collision. This is a really nice improvement on the original Adaptive Air Suspension that was available for the Model S and Model X from 2013 to 2017 — but it sounds like Tesla might be able to do even more in the future.

Twitter user BLKMDL3 recently asked Elon Musk about his plans to further improve the air suspension in his Model S by raising it automatically when a dip is detected, and he got an affirmative response from Elon.

He explained that he was looking into how the suspension could react to terrain recognition, a feature that can be used for full self-driving functionality. He noted that this would help to improve the stability of the car on corners, but it could also be useful for avoiding rear-end collisions on curves.

As for the actual functionality of the air suspension, it is a pretty basic pneumatic system that deflates and inflates air bladders with a compressor using a bunch of pipes and valves to change ride height. It offers a moderate range of adjustments, including four ride height settings plus jack mode, but it doesn’t offer much more than other pneumatic systems.

If you’re interested in putting air suspension on your Model 3, you have to be willing to invest a few thousand dollars and higher repair costs. But it’s a feature that can make your Tesla more enjoyable to drive, and if you’re able to find an older model with the system installed on it, it might be worth it in the long run.
