Air Suspension Problems
The rear air suspension on the 2003-2009 Hummer H2 uses a pair of rear air bags to raise and lower the vehicle for improved ride height. The air bags use pressurized air to hold the weight of the vehicle over the rear axle. Unfortunately, millions of up and down motions will cause tiny cracks to develop in the rubber air springs. Once the air springs start to leak, the onboard air compressor will be forced to work harder in an attempt to keep the system inflated. This overworking can lead to premature failure of the compressor.
Other Air Suspension Components
The air suspension system has 2 inlet valves that allow pressurized air to enter the air springs. These are controlled by the air suspension module. There is an air pressure sensor that monitors the system and sends a signal to the module. The air pressure sensor also sends a signal to the compressor relay that turns the compressor on and off. The compressors are protected by a thermal limit switch that shuts the compressors off when they overheat.
