Air Bag Suspension Cost

What is an Air Bag System? Airbag systems have been first developed in the mid 1900s. Since then, American and European manufacturers have continued to advance airbag prototypes for trucks and automobiles. Essentially, an airbag suspension uses a series of airbags - typically made of reinforced rubber - to keep cars or trucks (and sometimes even boats) from rolling over.

What is the airbag suspension cost? In general, an airbag suspension system is quite inexpensive. The price depends on a number of factors. Typically, manufacturers base the price of the airbag system on the size and weight of the vehicle in question.

If you are shopping for an airbag suspension system for your car, you may be able to negotiate a lower price based on a number of variables. If your car doesn't have significant wear and tear, it will obviously cost less. Also, if you are willing to forego performance modifications, you will save some money on installation costs as well. The most important factor in determining the airbag suspension cost is, however, the size of your vehicle.

Some vehicles are large enough that performance modifications such as performance air suspension can be expensive. Also, if your car doesn't have a stock air suspension system, the cost will go up as well. When shopping for performance kits, it is wise to consider what else is already installed. If you are going from stock to OEM or performance kits, take a look at the level of performance your car already has. If it's worth it, you can upgrade to higher levels of performance without a lot of expense.

Vehicles with stock air suspension systems, however, are rare. High performance vehicles, such as NASCAR race cars, have different airbag systems. Some use high capacity airbags, others carry a small capacity airbag. For these vehicles, the airbag suspension cost will be higher.

In addition, the size of airbags carried by the vehicle will also determine the airbag suspension cost. Larger vehicles generally carry more airbags and must have a more secure mounting system. Also, the weight of the airbag will influence the airbag suspension cost. Most airbags carry between two and five pounds, so the weight of the airbag will directly affect the cost of the air ride system.

Lastly, what kind of aftermarket auto parts are used? Different aftermarket auto parts will work better with certain make/model vehicles. For example, the steering control knobs on four-wheel drive vehicles need to be made from high performance materials. On the other hand, the control knobs on automatic transmission vehicles can use regular components, but they need to be designed to work with the different settings on the transmission.

The final part of the calculation is the inflation pressure used for the air suspension. Although there is no standard set of calculations for this number, most manufacturers recommend that the air springs are inflated to 35psi. When an air bag suspension is used, there is a significant decrease in ground reaction and increased ground clearance. These factors will decrease the amount of stress on the shock towers and tires and the amount of pressure lost through the air springs.
